The term “underrated” gets thrown around like a Frisbee to describe far too many mediocre artists who never got their time in the limelight. However, in the case of Atlanta MC Killer Mike underrated is probably too small of a word to describe how criminally slept on he is. When Mike first hit the scene with Outkast as a catalyst for his abrasive delivery, hardcore bars and clever metaphors it seemed to be a given that Mike would be the next to blow. Fans witnessed many show stealing guest appearances (The Whole World anyone?) a dope first album that flew under the radar, ridiculous verses on mix tapes and compilations and then several false starts and a long wait that frustrated his fans. When it was revealed that Mike was no longer affiliated with Big Boi’s Purple Ribbon Records, Mike’s delivery seemed to get angrier and more emphatic and his political and social commentary was peppered in more with his hardcore rhymes making the young MC sound like a new millennium Ice Cube. Hopefully, “10 Gs” with Mike’s unique barking flow over woozy organs from his fourth coming album “I Pledge Allegiance to the Grind II” will help to put Mike in a spot he rightfully belongs.
