Steve Powers: Distilling Daily Stories Into Art

Prolific New York City graffiti artist Steve Powers (aka ESPO or Exterior Surface Painting Outreach) discusses his art at the recent PSFK Conference NYC 2012. Humorously expounding the thought and inspiration behind his projects, he also tells about the “Daily Metaltation” series–an ongoing project daily involving 8×10 pieces of metal. Perceiving each new day as a blank slate to be painted, Powers explains that his job as an artist is to derive form and boundaries for distilling his experiences on canvas or in this case, metal.
