Go to fabric stores and find patterns, take sewing classes, join clubs, share drafts, etc. I think that's how Roy Slaper said he started out.

^Wut...just go to Sufu and lurk the denim threads. Learn about twills, stubbiness, weight of the denim, shuttlelooms, all that stuff. Pick up an apprenticeship if you can.

I guess learning the technique of jean making is step one. Step two is purchasing your own set of embroidery tools and denim. After all that, I think you'd have to invest in A.P.C.'s etc., deconstruct every component of the jeans into pieces, make notes, make measurements and cut out templates. This is how to determine their techniques for making their different cuts. If there's something you don't like about a cut, you could take notes and tweak them to your fit. And since you already know how to make jeans, you could reconstruct the dissected jeans, so they don't go to waste.

Are you trying to make a pair of jeans?
I have made a pair, just buy some good fabric, premium denim outlet has some good fabric. Look into the diff mills or just randomly select a good fabric. Buy a sewing machine and use it to make a pair. buy a pattern and edit it to the look you want. Then sew. it takes a while but is well worth it.

Here are some cool vids to check out. It's not a step by step, but I find them interesting. I usually watch how things are made. It's kind of weird, but love seeing how LV bags are made or how Ferragamo shoes are made. Even watching how designs are made is interesting.
