Renowned Mexican tattoo artist Mister Cartoon has teamed up with Nike on a shoe synonymous with Los Angeles culture — the classic Cortez. Mr. Cartoon and Nike have produced a new collaborative capsule collection that should make the city proud. The Swoosh allowed Cartoon, born Mark Machado, to add his flair to three Cortez silhouettes. Cartoon’s Cortez collection features a white, navy and black model — each with varying hand-drawn details related to the LA street lifestyle the artist personifies.

Each shoe in the capsule comes with a custom metal CTOONS piece and while the black pair features a Swoosh with Old English LA lettering, the white pair has no Nike check at all; instead it reads “Cortez” in cursive. Both the black and white versions have a commemorative 45th anniversary tag on the tongue. The navy blue Cortez is less decorative but still contains a quilted pattern resembling the stitching inside of a Chevy Impala.

Mr. Cartoon’s capsule collection will launch at Nice Kicks’ DTLA store on July 13 before being made available for $120 USD via nike.com, SNKRS app and select Nike stockists on July 14.
