Nike shocked the sneaker world when it announced the release of the Nike MAG with power laces. While only a select few ended up obtaining pairs, it brought this technology to a wider audience with the HyperAdapt 1.0 in 2016. Various power lacing sneakers hit the market afterwards, leading to the eventual introduction of the Adapt App for the Adapt BB, a self-lacing basketball sneaker that had special features associated with the phone application.

Now, Nike has announced that the Adapt line, which hasn’t seen any action for years now, is no longer being worked on and that the Nike Adapt App will no longer be available. “We released the Adapt BB, the self-lacing basketball shoe, along with its companion Adapt App in 2019. After five years, we’re retiring the Adapt App and removing it from the Apple and Android app stores, globally, on August 6, 2024. Don’t worry, your Adapt shoes will continue to work without the app,” shared Nike on the application’s help page.

It goes on to note that “we are no longer creating new versions of Adapt shoes,” in the FAQ, as well as mentioning that the shoes will still function if you do not have the application. The list of manual features includes powering the shoe on and off, checking battery status and adjusting, saving and unlacing your customized fit.
