A monumental comeback is underway as Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter (now X), has personally provided funding for diVine, an ambitious project dedicated to resurrecting the beloved short-form video platform, Vine. The new venture, led by former members of the original Vine team, is not just rebuilding the app, but has secured the entire original Vine video archive. In 2022, Elon Musk reportedly wanted Twitter to reboot Vine.
This is huge news for digital culture. The original Vine, which shuttered in 2016, was a legendary incubator for a generation of creators and established the six-second video format. Its archive contains billions of iconic, culturally significant clips—many of which were thought lost or existed only as fragmented re-uploads. By integrating this archive, diVine promises to be the definitive home for both new content and priceless digital history.
Dorsey’s investment signals a belief in the platform’s enduring creative value, positioning diVine as a direct, nostalgia-driven competitor in the short-form video market currently dominated by TikTok. The new platform is expected to retain Vine’s signature constraints and unique loop features, while introducing modern monetization tools for creators. Jack Dorsey’s nonprofit “and Other Stuff” is financing the creation of diVine. Original Vine creators will still maintain their own copyright to their work and can send diVine a DMCA takedown request should they want their Vines removed off the platform.
The public can gear up for the ability to relive the golden age of six-second comedy and see what a new generation does with the classic format. With the new app, fans are expected to have access to over 100,000 archived Vine videos. diVine is now available to download.
